Custom Costumes
The Art of Tailoring designs and makes custom costumes in Dubai for the evenings when an ordinary outfit will not do: Halloween, themed parties, galas, Comic Con, New Year's Eve, performances and photoshoots. Every costume is designed with you, cut to your measurements and finished by hand in our private atelier in Al Barsha 3, by master artisans with over twenty years of experience. It is couture craftsmanship applied to costume.

Each costume is fully custom and made only for you. Nothing is rented, and nothing is chosen from a rail.
An example from the atelier
One of the atelier's own designs shows what hand embellishment means here. A full skeleton is traced in hand-stitched crystals on black velvet, running across the front, down the arms and over the back. No glue is used: every crystal is sewn in place by hand. The piece took three weeks of handwork.
That is the difference between a custom costume maker in Dubai working at couture level and a costume assembled for one night. It is designed to be looked at closely.
How it works, step by step
- 1. Private consultation. We discuss your idea, sketch the design together, take your measurements and choose fabrics. Bring photos, links, swatches or your own fabric; the more we see, the closer the first sketch.
- 2. Making. Your costume is cut and made by hand in the atelier. Payment is made in stages across the process rather than in one sum.
- 3. Fittings. The fit is refined on you at times that suit your schedule, and the personal details are chosen, from the lining to a monogram.
- 4. Delivery. Your costume is ready for the event. Any workmanship issue reported within 48 hours of delivery is put right.
Timing: why costumes need planning ahead
Most pieces at The Art of Tailoring are ready in about ten days, depending on your availability for fittings, and we are flexible around your schedule. Fabrics sourced from abroad or detailed hand-beading can take a little longer: the skeleton design above took three weeks of handwork alone.
Halloween and New Year's Eve fall on fixed dates. If you are planning a bespoke Halloween costume in Dubai or a New Year's Eve outfit, message us when the invitation arrives, not the week before. Starting early leaves room for the details that make a costume worth commissioning.
Fabrics and handwork
We work in velvet, silks, lace, leather, wool, linen and cotton, chosen for how they move, how they hold a structure and how they read in low light or under a camera flash.
Hand embellishment is the atelier's speciality: hand-beading, crystals, pearls and embroidery, applied by hand by our artisans. It is the same handwork we bring to bridal and evening pieces, used here to make a character or a theme unmistakable.
Visiting the atelier
The atelier is a private villa at Villa 29, Street 33B, Al Barsha 3, Dubai, open by appointment only. If you would rather not travel, our VIP home service brings us to you anywhere in Dubai. Clients visiting from abroad for an event can begin with a video consultation, with fittings at the atelier once in Dubai.
